About
     Sam

Sam Perna (she/her) was born in Caracas, Venezuela and raised in Miami, Florida where she began her dance training at the age of seven. She grew up competing and training in multiple styles of dance including jazz, hip-hop, ballet and contemporary.

After graduating high school in 2021, she moved to Los Angeles, California to continue her dance training and pursue a BFA in Dance Theatre at AMDA College of the Performing Arts. At AMDA, Sam expanded her practice and was introduced to more styles including heels, modern, and musical theater. In addition to her dance training, she began vocal training under the instruction of Nicole Winter. She has been a part of multiple stage performances under the direction of Kyle Mchargh, Stephanie Landwehr, and Gheremi Clay. She has also performed as a swing and ensemble member in the musical RENT under the direction of Donna Drake. Sam also had the opportunity to create and cultivate relationships with wonderful instructors such as Genevieve Carson, Michelle Elkin, Laura Berg, Rachel Whiting, Stefanie Santiago, and many more.

During her time at AMDA, Sam also discovered her love for content creation and filmmaking. She developed her skills in videography and editing with the professional guidance of Franklin Guerreo and Winnie Mu. Since graduating from college, Sam continues to hone her craft in production, directing, editing, and choreographing to share and create films that generate from the physical, emotional, and spiritual experiences of human life.

Sam recently discovered more versatility within her movement and has expanded her interests as an artist. She aspires to be bicoastal and take part in any opportunity within the concert, commercial, and Broadway world along with performing in film, television, and on stage. Sam has become an intuitive mover; through her humanistic and sensory-driven choices, she expresses personal narratives of nostalgia and subtle grace. Her presence is grounded in a sense of intentionality, effortlessly inviting audiences to join the environment she explores. Outside of dance, Sam enjoys thrifting, watching films, and spending quality time with friends and her cat.
